Once soldering is completed on both sides, we clean carefully, coat the solder with protective artificial chemical patina (aging appearance), clean again and wax the window carefully to protect it from oxidation.

Re-cut Glass

If a piece breaks while handling, or does not fit properly, it must be re-cut to fit the pattern.

Up close, you can see how each edge of every piece of glass must be ground to fit the rest, carefully coated with foil tape and fit to the pattern before soldering every line.

On the work table

The project is carefully placed to insure that two sides are square and we work from those to make all pieces fit within the completed rectangle. Copper foil and solder method creates a stronger window, but each piece of glass is meticulously cut, ground and carefully foiled before soldering can begin.

"Lady Anne" Driver of Aire Castle Stained Glass Art carefully cleans the Coca Cola windows before black patina and wax finish is to be applied. Cleaning involves use of a small pick and Q-Tips, as well as a terrycloth towel.

A powder called "Whiting" with a bit of saw dust is used with a brush to remove the excess putty.

Windows that use Lead Came (preformed \"H\" or \"U\" shaped channeled Lead) require the seams to be filled with a sticky black cement/putty that fills the gaps and \"glues\" the window together. (Nasty work)
